A few hours later I made my way upstairs and started reading a book.
Within about 10 minutes I started to get pretty tired and decided to turn in for the night. If I had to guess, it took me about 15 min. to fall asleep but I ended up waking up once through the night (around 3 am) to take a piss. I fell back asleep with no problems, and woke up feeling great. However, about 3 hours later I started to hit a wall and got pretty tired/foggy. I decided to up the dosage the next night to 2 capsules.
On the 2nd day, I decided to take 1 capsule at around 5:30 pm on an empty stomach. Mind you I was in sort of a bad mood for most of the day, feeling mostly sluggish and unable to get any work done. About an hour after taking it I noticed a significant improvement in my mood, and overall just felt more relaxed. It felt like it was starting to wear off about 3 hours after taking that first capsule, so I decided to take another one at around 8:30.
Keep in mind that the “supposed” half-life for Phenibut is about 5 hours, which basically means every 5 hours the supplements potency is cut in half.
The “feel good” feeling returned and this time stuck around for much longer. I went to bed around 11:30 pm and ended up waking around 8:30 am, and I gotta say I felt GREAT! The effects seemed to last through most of the day without even taking another pill, which was a plus.
I decided to take another 2 capsules later on that evening and felt the same effects. At this point I was down to 1 pill, and figured it probably wouldn’t do much to take it so I decided to just let it wear off and see if there was any come down effects. Surprisingly, I didn’t feel any major crash or anything, and my mood was pretty well enhanced for most of the weekend.

Here I am, about 10 days in and 18 total grams consumed, and I feel freakin weird, mainly in a bad way. That night, I got to sleep relatively easily, but again woke up at 4 am, right on the nose. What woke me up? I had a nightmare, and all I remember was that I was pissing blood…yeah, that’s not good. This time, however, I was lucky and fell back asleep relatively quickly.
The next day (Wednesday), I was heading down to a local car dealership to pick up a car to test drive for a few hours, and I had a sense of anxiety kind of creep over me. I don’t normally feel anxious, in fact I’m usually a very level headed guy, but it was an inescapable feeling. A feeling of dread, almost. I picked up the car and drove around for a bit, feeling fine when not in a social situation (like a car dealership).
I got home, went onto my computer to do some quick research on the car, and decided “WTF, let me take another 500 mg”. After all, in about 2 hours I would probably be negotiating a new car, so I didn’t want to be social awkward or anxious. Buying a car is anxious enough, I didn’t need it to be worsened.
An hour or so later I felt completely fine, back to the same old talkative guy I normally am, utterly and totally socially-free.
As I type this, it’s 2:30 am (Thursday)….I am NEVER up this late, and haven’t been for years. I can’t sleep because every time I lay down and am just about to fall asleep, I jerk myself awake and end up staring at the ceiling for the next hour.
I’ve decided I’m going to go cold-turkey off of this stuff, which from all the research I’ve been doing is probably the best way to go. From what I’ve read, tapering off with lower doses just seems to extend the withdrawal symptoms. I have no one to blame but myself, because I simply didn’t follow the instructions on the label or from what I researched.
I’m sure it will pass soon, and I hope it does so pretty damn quickly! I will try to update this again in a few days to let everyone know how it turned out.
