Face it. We all wish we had the body of a professional athlete, am I right? They’re strong, they’re lean, they’re, well, athletic. And when we find out one of them might just have gotten that way by using a substance we can also have access to, we get hopeful. Maybe we can get a physique like that too.

A couple days ago, I read an “ESPN” article with the headline: “Breaking News: Seahawks Cancel Russell Wilson’s 4 Year $84 Million Contract!” Wait, what?! Did I read that right? It goes on to say:

“Russell Wilson may have just lost his 4 year $84 million contract extension with the Seahawks after they discovered he utilized a performance enhancing supplement called Testamatol that the NFL will officially ban within the next few months.”

Okay, this stuff must be out of this world amazing! And not only that, but if you use it with another supplement, called Vigoraflo, they say your results will be even more incredible. Richard Mason, the writer of the article, tested out the stack and says he gained 16 pounds of pure muscle in just 4 weeks. And he did it with “No Special Diet. No Intense Exercise.”

That’s when I gotta call bullshit. No way this guy gained 16 pounds of pure muscle in a month without changing his diet or workout routine. And the truth is the article is completely fabricated and not really an article at all.  It’s got nothing to do with ESPN.  Just look at the website address.

 

But we’ll go ahead anyway and take a look at Testamatol and Vigoraflo separately, see what they actually can and cannot do, and if they’re worth trying in the end.

What Is Testamatol?

Testamatol is an HGH (Human Growth Hormone) stimulating supplement. It doesn’t contain any actual HGH. (That would actually be banned from most sports doping authorities). Instead, it stimulates the body’s own natural HGH production. Increased HGH means:

  • Increased energy.
  • Slowed down aging.
  • Better sleep.
  • Decreased fat accumulation.
  • Increased lean muscle development.

The working theory is that if you supplement with certain amino acids in certain combinations, you can increase the amount of HGH secreted by the somatotropic cells of your pituitary gland. There are currently some scientific studies (CITE https://www.google.com/patents/US6368617) showing that there may be something to this theory, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Testamatol works.

The Testamatol formula is proprietary, which means they tell you what ingredients are in it, but they don’t tell you how much. So even though there are studies being conducted, the amount of each ingredient in Testamatol formula is not likely to be the same as what’s being used in those studies.

Testamatol Ingredients

The Testamatol proprietary formula includes 3 kinds of L-Arginine as well as L-Citrulline.

  • L-Arginine Alpha Ketoglutarate (AKG) increases the body’s production of nitric oxide. This improves blood flow to muscle tissue throughout the body. The increased blood flow delivers greater amounts of oxygen and nutrients, allowing your muscles to work harder and recover faster. L-Arginine AKG is better and more quickly absorbed by the body than other forms of L-Arginine.
  • L-Arginine also increases nitric oxide in the body, so you’re further boosting the body’s nutrient and oxygen delivery. It’s also one of the key amino acids that may increase the body’s production of HGH.
  • L-Arginine Monohydrochoride which is also better absorbed than traditional L-Arginine.
  • L-Citrulline which enhances the benefits of L-Arginine when it comes to nitric oxide production. The benefits of nitric oxide in your system are extended out to a longer period of time.

This may or may not be a complete list of the active ingredients in Testamatol. If it is, there’s plenty to increase nitric oxide production, which is helpful for better workouts, but there’s really not much to increase the release of HGH throughout the body.

What Is Vigoraflo?

Vigoraflo is the testosterone booster of the stack. When you start moving through your thirties and beyond, the amount of testosterone produced by your body drops off to a noticeable degree. You start to notice symptoms like:

  • Increased tendency to gain fat.
  • Decreased ability to build and retain lean muscle mass.
  • Irritability.
  • Lethargy.
  • Loss of libido.

How Does Vigoraflo Work

Vigoraflo stimulates your body’s natural testosterone production, raising levels back to where they were years ago, and alleviating and in some cases eliminating, the symptoms that come along with testosterone levels falling off.

There are several herbal ingredients that have the potential to boost testosterone levels, and quite a few of them show up in the Vigoraflo formula:

  • Horny Goat Week which actually plays more of a role in improving sexual performance by increasing libido as well as blood flow to the penis during erections. It works a little like Viagra when it comes to improving erections.
  • Tongkat Ali which increases free testosterone by inhibiting the action of Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG) which attaches itself to testosterone molecules, making them unusable by the body. With less SHBG around to get in the way, you’ll have more free testosterone doing its job.
  • Saw Palmetto Extract which supports the health of your prostate.
  • Sarsaparilla which improves focus and concentration.
  • Boron which supports healthy cell functioning.
  • Wild Yam Extract which improves hormonal balance.
  • Nettle Extract which also supports prostate health.
  • Orchic Substance which contains zinc, an essential nutrient for many bodily functions, including the production of testosterone.

It’s a fairly weak formula all things considered. You at least want to see D-Aspartic Acid in your testosterone booster. It’s the most clinically successful testosterone boosting ingredient we know of.

Where to Buy Testamatol and Vigoraflo

In the fake article, there are links to the Testamatol and Vigoraflo websites, where you can buy each respective product, though “buy” might not be the right term. In order to get Testamatol and Vigoraflo, you have to sign up for their free trial offers.

You pay a small shipping fee. If after 14 days, you have not contacted the companies, they’ll charge you full price for both supplements, and you’ll be signed up to receive a new full price bottle each month.

If you don’t want this to happen, you need to call and cancel your subscription within 14 days of the day you placed your original free trial offer. If you do get charged, be prepared. Testamatol costs $89.99 per bottle, and Vigoramax is just as bad at $89.95.

Both Testamatol and Vigoraflo are super expensive and that’s bad enough. But they hide the terms of their offer in the fine print, so that makes the obscene price that much worse.

Testamatol and Vigoraflow Conclusion

Don’t bother. Stay away. There are tons of red flags when it comes to Testamatol and Vigoraflow. They’re advertised using a completely faked article filled with distorted “facts”. They promise 15 pounds of muscle in a month with no change in diet or workout. And you can only buy them with a free trial offer which turns out to be nothing even resembling free. Testamatol and Vigoraflow are not worth your time, your money, or your expectations.

This is very similar to Adderall, Ritalin, Vyvanse or any other similar stimulant based pills operate and thus, in theory, it should work similarly.

To prompt weight loss, Addrena contains herbs that produce natural thermogenic effects and act to suppress hunger. These thermogenic effects stimulate the metabolism and increases generated heat in the body, leading to fat loss.

What Are The Ingredients?

Addrena contains an extensive amount of ingredients, including:

  • Vitamin B3, which promotes a healthy nervous system.
  • Vitamin B12, which is needed for normal memory and focus.
  • Guarana, which is a stimulant mainly used to enhance energy.
  • Bitter Orange, which is traditionally used for heartburn and weight loss.

  • Caffeine, which researchers say has a positive effect on long-term memory.
  • Dimethylaminoethanol, which is a chemical that helps the brain form acetylcholine. This process is instrumental to the transmission of messages by neurotransmitters.
  • White Willow Bark Extract, which is used for pain, fever and weight loss.
  • Piperine, which is an extract (derived from black pepper) that increases the absorption of various nutrients.
  • Vinpocetine, which is an extract (derived from the periwinkle plant) that enhances cognitive functions, including those related to long- and short-term memory.
  • Huperzine A, which is an alkaloid found in certain plants. Huperzine A is known for its effectiveness in treating symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.

Ingredients that are not displayed on Addrena’s label but are indicated on the manufacturer’s website include theophylline, octopamine, synephrine, theobromine and yohimbine hydrochloride.

Addrena Vs. Adderall

To fight symptoms of ADHD, Adderall uses a combination of synthetic amphetamine and dextroamphetamine salts. The drug works by increasing the flow of neurotransmitters in the brain – this process calms behavior and helps facilitate focus. Adderall also curbs hunger, resulting in weight loss.

Journalists, college students, baseball players, scientists and other individuals have been known to use Adderall to improve attention, learning, memory, concentration and productivity. The prescription drug, however, has a high potential for abuse, and other possible side effects such as rapid heartbeat, feelings of extreme highs and lows, hallucinations and muscle twitches.

Dr. Corneliu E. Giurgea, who originally synthesized Piracetam and coined the term “nootropic” established “very few side effects” as one of the criteria for nootropics. A true nootropic therefore has very limited or zero side effects.

Addrena is marketed as a substitute to Adderall, containing natural ingredients that provide similar effects to Adderall but without the side effects generally associated with the prescription drug. While some users report positive experiences with Addrena, some nootropic reviewers claim that Addrena can cause serious side effects.

Potential Addrena Side Effects

Addrena is intended to be free of side effects and safer for long-term use than Adderall, but it has been heavily criticized by reviewers for containing dangerous properties. The general consensus on this issue is that the chemicals in Bitter Orange and Yohimbe Bark pose hazardous health risks.

What Do The Reviews Say?

Reviews of Yohimbe from the general population are extremely mixed. Some people have high praises for the supplement, stating that it “works as advertised” or it “increases focus without crash or insomnia.” Others say that it “didn’t do much” and does the same thing that a cup of coffee would do. Notably, some users claimed that the product comes with a message promising customers a free bottle of Addrena if they leave a positive review.

How To Take It

Because this is a powerful supplement with Adderall-like effects, the recommended dosage is one pill per day – though some people take 2 per day, spacing out the time frame. Addrena should not be taken with caffeine, as it already contains potent stimulant properties.

ADDRENA PROS AND CONS

Traditional stores, such as Walmart, Rite Aid, GNC, CVS and Walgreens do not sell Addrena. It is sold via the manufacturer’s website or through the company at Amazon.com.

Addrena costs $39.99 per bottle, which has 60 pills, generally lasting up to two months (if you take one per day). According to the manufacturer, the cost is much less than the price of comparable products which have far less mgs than Addrena and do not provide strong results.

You don’t need a prescription to buy most nootropics, but since they are health-related, it’s always a good idea to consult with your physician before taking them – and Addrena is no exception.

Conclusion

Based on our research, the cons of using Addrena outweigh the pros. For the most part, the manufacturer’s website is informative, but it does not address reported side effects, simply stating that the product does not carry the side effects associated with prescription medications such as Adderall and Ritalin.

People respond differently to nootropics, based on their body chemistry. Therefore, Addrena users may, or may not, experience side effects. But with the significant amount of controversy that surrounds the use of Addrena, potential side effects are worthy of note.

Considering that one of the key components of Addrena – specifically Yohimbe – is banned in several countries and there are quite a few warnings concerning Addrena, we cannot unequivocally recommend the supplement.

Nootropics. Brain Boosters. Cognitive Enhancers. Limitless Pills. They have lots of different names, but they’re basically all the same thing. They’re supplements that claim to help you think better, remember longer, focus more intently, and process information more quickly.

These supplements are getting more and more popular by the day, and the truth is I’ve tried a lot of them myself. One that I’ve recently come across is called Brain Abundance. I haven’t tried it yet, but I wanted to put together all the information we have on it, so if you get to it before I do, you at least have some idea of what to expect.

Just like our bodies, over time and with age, our brains deteriorate to some degree. And just like wrinkled skin and lost muscle tone, the degree of degradation varies from person to person. Whichever end of the scale you find yourself on, Brain Abundance promises to slow the process down and improve the way your brain functions.

  • Support for a healthy memory, both long and short term.

How Brain Abundance Works

One of the key factors for any supplement claiming to improve cognitive function is its ability to cross the blood brain barrier. This is the interface that decides which substances are allowed into the brain and which ones need to be protected against. Unless a supplement can cross that barrier, it can have little effect on how your brain works.

Brain Abundance promises that its substances are formulated so that they can indeed cross the blood brain barrier.

Brain Abundance Ingredients

There are a full 13 ingredients in the Brain Abundance formula. Let’s break them down. There’s:

  • Folic Acid which improves memory and cognition, and is currently being studied as a potential help for Alzheimer’s Disease patients.
  • L-Glutamine which provides energy to the brain and is known to improve mental alertness, mood, and memory. It can also decrease sugar cravings.
  • Phenylalanine which may improve symptoms of depression and Parkinson’s Disease.
  • Rhodiola Rosea which can help relieve the anxiety and fatigue brought on by stressful situations.
  • Sensoril which provides a calm, positive frame of mind, conducive to thoughtful, rational, decision making. Because of its effect on mood, it also can help curb emotional eating.
  • Vitamin B12 which needs to be maintained at healthy levels in order to help fight off memory loss and cognitive decline of any kind.
  • Grape Seed Extract which is an antioxidant that can cross the blood grain barrier to regulate neurotransmitters in the brain, improve the symptoms of ADD/ADHD.
  • Astaxanthin which is another antioxidant that makes it through the blood brain barrier to help keep neurotransmitters in peak condition.
  • Niacinamide which may help combat learning disorders, anxiety, insomnia, aggression, and several other conditions of the brain.
  • Vitamin B6 which helps fight body and brain fatigue. It also fights against brain shrinkage which causes diminished function as we age.
  • Resveratrol which is yet another antioxidant that crosses the blood brain barrier. It keeps neurotransmitters clean and functioning, while providing anti-aging benefits as well.

There’s little doubt that the Brain Abundance formula is safe and may help you feel a little better and maybe even brighter, but overall, it’s a pretty weak formula. I’m used to brain boosting supplements with actual nootropic ingredients that feed neurotransmitters in your brain and actually boost functioning. Brain Abundance looks more like an herbal, feel good, multivitamin and antioxidant formulation.

The Brain Abundance Business Opportunity

As we dug a little deeper into the information provided by the Brain Abundance website, we found what may be the “real” point of this supplement. It became clear that Brain Abundance is a multi-level marketing (MLM) scheme. If you’re not familiar with that term, think Pyramid Scheme.

Basically, they’re not just selling their supplement. They encourage all their customers to become salespeople. If you do, you become part of a higher level salesperson’s network, and they get a piece of your commission on everything you sell. In turn, you also recruit salespeople for your network, and you get of piece of all their commissions. When your salespeople recruit their own network, you get commissions on all of their sales too. And this goes on for “generations” of salespeople.

Historically, these MLM schemes make a crapload of money for a few people at the top of the pyramid because they get a piece of every sale made by most of the salespeople in the company. But most of the people that get involved after the company is established, don’t do very well at all.

Brain Abundance Reviews

There are a few Brain Abundance reviews on Amazon.com, and they’re mixed. One thing you should note, however, is that none of the 5-star reviews are marked as “verified amazon purchases” while all of the 1-star reviews are.

Where to Buy

If you want to purchase Brain Abundance, be aware that you will be recruited to sell the stuff, and recruited hard. They make much more money if you sell then if you only buy. They want you to do both, and they want you to convince all of your customers to do both as well.

If you try to order Brain Abundance online, you’ll be asked for a member referral number before they even show you a price. That’s how they can know what salesperson and network gets the commission.

Brain Abundance is also currently available on Amazon.com for about $45.

Does Brain Abundance Work?

One of the most important things to remember about MLM companies is that they don’t really care all that much about their products. It’s all about the sales structure and the commissions. They want their product to be good enough not to create a bad reputation. That would make it harder to sell. But mainly, they’re concerned with finding a product in a hot little niche that’s rising in popularity. That makes brain boosting supplements a perfect candidate for this kind of marketing scheme.

I haven’t tried Brain Abundance, but frankly, the formula is weak. It doesn’t have any of the nootropic powerhouses you look for like racetams or phosphatidylserine for example. My educated opinion on the subject is that you probably won’t find much benefit from taking Brain Abundance.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a cognitive enhancement supplement, there are far better options than Brain Abundance with no strings attached. If you’re looking for a business opportunity, I would tend to recommend against that too. It’s not that nobody makes money on these schemes. Just the vast majority.

Slim Trim Review – Affordable and Effective?



There are so many diet supplements on the market, it’s tough to keep them straight. This is made even more true when a bunch of different products use practically the same name.

Take Slim Trim, for example. When I heard about it and started looking into it, the first thing I saw was an FDA warning letter that it contained a banned substance. But don’t run off too quickly. That warning letter was a referring to a different product, called Slim Trim U. Slim Trim, as far as we can tell, has not run afoul of the FDA because of illicit ingredients or anything else.

But that’s not the only diet pill with a similar name. In addition to Slim Trim and Slim Trim U, there’s also Slim Trim PM, Slim Trim 2000, and even Trim Slim.

Try not to let it confuse you. If you’re having trouble figuring out which supplement we’re talking about, take a look at the picture just to the right. That’s the Slim Trim we mean.

What Is Slim Trim?

In fact, there isn’t a whole lot of information or feedback available about the supplement. But we dug and dug until we found what we needed to write an informative review.

By taking Slim Trim, you’ll find everything you want in a diet pill in terms of benefits. Slim Trim:

  • Burns Fat.
  • Suppresses Appetite.
  • Stimulates Your Metabolism.

The three pillars of effective weight loss! But aren’t these the promises of every weight loss pill? What makes Slim Trim different? What makes it the one that’s finally going to break through your plateaus and continue on your way to success? The answer to that would lie in the formula.

Slim Trim Ingredients

The Slim Trim website doesn’t offer a whole lot of information, but we do get an ingredient list, in the form of a product label.

The formula is part listed ingredients with amounts and part proprietary blend. We’ll go with the listed ingredients first:

  • 200 mcg of Chromium. Without enough Chromium, your body’s ability to handle insulin is less efficient. With sufficient chromium, sugars, fats, proteins, and carbs are metabolized and tolerated better. The recommended daily intake for healthy adults is 50-200mcg.
  • 400 mg of Green Tea Leaf Extract (with 200mg of EGCG). Studies are showing that the active ingredient in green tea (EGCG) is beneficial to metabolism and weight loss. The recommended dose is 270 mg of EGCG per day.
  • 300 mg of Guarana Seed Extract. Weight loss benefits of Guarana come mainly from its caffeine content. The stimulant can provide energy and suppress appetite. The typical effective dose is 800 mg taken before a meal.
  • 100 mg of Green Coffee Bean Extract. The active compound in Green Coffee Bean Extract is Chlorogenic acid, which helps promote weight loss. How it works exactly is unknown, but it’s thought to prevent storage of carbohydrates as fat. The effective dose depends on the concentration of chlorogenic acid, and ranges from 240mg – 3,000mg.

The Slim Trim Proprietary Blend includes Acai Fruit Extract, Raspberry Ketones, Hoodia Gordonii, Cinnamon Bark, Cayenne Pepper, and Resveratrol.

These are all beneficial to weight loss in their own way, but the fact that they’re couched in a proprietary blend means that there’s unlikely to be enough to have much of an effect.

How To Use Slim Trim

The bottle recommends taking 2 capsules once a day with a meal. Given the appetite suppression effects, I would recommend taking it about 20 minutes to half an hour before a meal. The bottle also states that you should use Slim Trim in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise program for best results. This isn’t a product that promises to take the weight off without effort on your part.

Where to Buy Slim Trim

As we mentioned above, Slim Trim is available through the product website as well as through Amazon.com. On the official website, a single bottle of 30 pills costs $9.99 while a single bottle of 60 pills costs $19.99. The 60 pill bottle will last for a month.

You can also find Slim Trim at Amazon where a 60 count bottle sells for $12.34. So this would be your best bet if you decided to purchase it.

How To Use Slim Trim Reviews

Because Slim Trim is available on Amazon, there are a few customer reviews to help us out with getting a sense of how it’s working for people in the real world. And to be honest, the news is not particuluar good.

There is one very positive review in which Romey says: “It really works. No jitters, no change in sleep patterns. Drink plenty of water and you will see a change in your appearance.”

But most of the rest are luke warm or worse:

John says, “Sorry Didn’t work for me.”

Ailaa says, “I personally don’t feel like it did me much good. I had more energy when I was taking these but as for weight loss, I was dieting and exercising and this didn’t give me any boost. It wasn’t until I stopped taking them that I actually lost 2 lbs 3 weeks after taking them.”

Who Makes Slim Trim?

This information was next to impossible to find. The Slim Trim website provides an “About Us” section, but it doesn’t state anything other than their mission to help people lose weight. The contact information provided does not include a physical address, so it was difficult to know where the company is located.

We finally found a clue in the email address provided that the parent company is called Inergetics. They make a few different supplements, and they have a website, but the only additional information we learned there is that they’re based in Newark, NJ.

Slim Trim Pros and Cons

Advantages of Slim Trim

  • It’s inexpensive.
  • Many of the ingredient amounts are listed, providing useful information on the effectiveness of Slim Trim.
  • The ingredients are all natural.
  • The marketing isn’t over-hyped with crazy promises of massive weight loss with zero effort.

Disadvantages of Slim Trim

  • The majority of reviews from customers who’ve used it say it just doesn’t work.

Conclusion

Slim Trim is likely very safe and mildly effective for helping curb your appetite when you’re trying to lose weight. But I’m afraid the benefits don’t go much beyond that. The dosing for the main ingredients is just to low to be effective, and the customer reviews bear this out. Slim Trim is affordable, this is true. But there are better weight loss products offer more in terms of value for your dollar.

Workout supplements are our primary focus here at SupplementCritique.com, but we’re also interested in diet and workout plans too. Anything that gets us and keeps us in great shape, really. So when the AGR Body program was brought to our attention, we decided to take a look.

Otherwise known as Adonis Golden Ratio, AGR Body is a 12 week system created by John Barban, a weight loss and nutrition specialist and author. The theory it’s based on is that by using certain details of your specific age and body type, a tailored diet and exercise program can be created to help you get in the best shape possible.

With focus on burning fat, boosting metabolism, increasing testosterone production, and building muscle, AGR Body is custom made for men who want to lose fat, gain muscle, and feel great about the way they look and function.

How Does AGR Body Work?

AGR Body ReviewAGR Body is a 12 week system of exercise and nutrition designed for men to boost metabolism and testosterone with the goal of burning fat and putting on lean muscle mass. It’s targeted for each individual guy, based on weight, age, and body type.

What Doesn’t Come With the AGR Body Program

The most notably missing component is supplements. The AGR Body program likes to promote the fact that they can help you boost metabolism and testosterone, lose weight, and gain muscle mass, all without the help of “Pills, Powders, or Potions.”

Once you’re in the program, however, they do make some recommendations for supplements you might want to try.

What Kinds of Foods Are Allowed

The Shape Specific Nutritional program used by AGR Body allows mainly for proteins, healthy fats, and vegetables. It’s not specified as a low carb program, but it is similar. This is because older men with less testosterone process carbohydrates less efficiently than younger guys. It’s less likely that young guys with lots of testosterone will end up storing excess carbohydrates as fat, more likely that older guys will.

Knowing what to eat and when according to what your body shape says about your hormone profile is key to getting in shape with the AGR Body program. The shape of your body indicates how you use insulin, and how much extra insulin you have. If your body shape indicates an excess of insulin, you need to strategize when to eat carbs and what to eat them with to minimize insulin release.

Who Is John Barban

The AGR Body system was created by John Barban, so we wanted to learn a little about who he is. Unfortunately, there’s not much to know, beyond this program, and its sister program for women, the Venus Factor. He is a nutritionist and weight loss author, but other than these two programs, we didn’t find any additional credentials.

How Much Does AGR Body Cost?

The AGR Body system is available to purchase online through the official program website. You can receive access to all the materials for $37. There’s also a 60-day money back guarantee. It states that if you’re not completely satisfied you get it free. I’m not sure if that means you still have full access, or that your access is revoked.

Advantages of AGR Body

  • It’s a complete system. When it comes to getting in shape, lots of people respond well when given a complete program to work with.
  • There’s a money back guarantee.
  • The system is not contingent on using a lot of supplements.

Disadvantages of AGR Body

  • There are a few AGR Body reviews out there stating that once you get the system, you are continually asked to buy more supporting products, like supplements. That the $37 price tag is really just a teaser to pull you in and get you to buy more.
  • There aren’t a lot of positive testimonials floating around. This either means that it’s not very popular, or that people don’t really find it all that useful.
  • I’ve seen complaints that the system is too customizable, making it difficult to navigate.

Conclusion

The most important key to losing weight and gaining muscle is finding a program that you like enough to stick with. That’s why there are so many options. They’re all trying to strike a chord with consumers, so they keep coming back. I have little doubt that if you navigate the AGR Body system correctly and stick with it, you will get in shape. But there is some concern that navigating it may be difficult.

Benefits of Nootropics

We’ve explained some of the advantages of taking nootropics, particularly in regards to focus, learning and memory. But your inner skeptic might be wondering… Where’s the proof?

That’s fine…skepticism is normal.

Sometimes, to be persuaded, you need quantified results – which we will deliver.

Impact on Memory, Attention and Learning

Nootropics enhance normal mental functioning.

In 1976, two researchers at University College in Cardiff, Wales performed a small study on the effects of piracetam in normal subjects. The study consisted of 16 healthy 2nd and 3rd year students (12 males, 4 females).

  • The subjects were given 4.8 grams a day of either piracetam or placebo for 14 days.
  • The students were told to learn a series of words presented as stimuli on a memory drum.
  • No effects were observed after 7 days, but verbal learning increased after 14 days.

The researchers found clear evidence for improvement in verbal learning due to piracetam administration. The majority of students had intellectually demanding jobs, and had claimed a slight decrease in their ability to recall or retain data.

After receiving 4.8 grams of piracetam per day, the students were given placebo for 4 weeks. Results of the paper and pencil tests and the computerized tests to measure perceptual motor reactions indicated that piracetam has greater effects on performance than placebo.

The results of this study were summarized in the influential and provocatively titled paper “Increase in the Power of Human Memory in Normal Man through the Use of Drugs.”

Low Toxicity

On a toxicological level, nootropics are among the safest substances ever developed.

Toxicity studies on nootropics have been performed on humans and a wide range of animals, including mice, goldfish, rats, rabbits, cats, dogs, guinea pigs and monkeys.

In acute toxicity trials – where rats received 8g of intravenous doses of piracetam and rats, dogs and mice got the same amount orally – there was no toxicity.  Note that this is the equivalent to 560-700g for a human weighing 154 pounds.

For 6 months, rats were given 100-1000mg orally; and for one year, dogs received 10,000mg orally. No toxicity and no teratogenic (which causes birth defects) were found.

Effects on Stroke, Dementia and Brain Trauma

Nootropics have shown positive effects in patients suffering from stroke, dementia and brain injury.

Aphasic Stroke

Aphasia – a condition that affects the ability to communicate – usually happens after a stroke or head injury. The condition negatively impacts speech and the ability to understand verbal and written communication.

In some cases, aphasia can occur gradually due to a degenerative disease or slow-growing brain tumor. Language and speech therapy are the primary treatments for aphasia; however, piracetam has been found to have a beneficial effect on the recovery of aphasic stroke.

In one study, 24 aphasic patients were given 4.8g daily doses of piracetam, while 26 patients received placebo.

  • Both the piracetam and placebo groups had similar symptoms in terms of type and severity.
  • The study did not include people suffering from mild aphasia, and all of the patients had been healthy prior to experiencing a stroke or brain trauma.
  • The subjects underwent 10 intensive 60-minute language therapy sessions.

The result?

Piracetam had a significantly favorable effect on the written language subtest. On the communicative ability scale, the piracetam group’s scores in spontaneous speech improved. Also, no adverse effects were reported in the piracetam group.

While this was only one trial and can hardly be considered definitive, another study on these same subjects confirmed that piracetam can boost written language skills plus reduce the severity of the subjects’ aphasia (Poeck, 1998).

Dementia

Dementia is the loss of intellectual abilities, resulting in a serious inability to perform everyday tasks. It’s not a disease in itself, but rather the term used to describe an extensive range of symptoms linked to a decline in memory and other thinking skills.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most prevalent form of dementia. Elderly individuals with Alzheimer’s frequently display a lower “hydrocarbon core” (which is associated with the cell membranes) fluidity than elderly people who don’t have the disease.

In a study involving in vitro administration of piracetam, the dementia patients’ hydrocarbon core fluidity went up to the same level as the non-demented elderly. On top of that, piracetam enhanced the fluidity of those who did not have the disease.

For both groups, piracetam was shown to decrease age-related alterations of membrane fluidity (Eckert et al., 1999). An analysis of this research revealed that individuals treated with piracetam showed a 60.9 percent improvement, compared to a 32.5 percent improvement in those treated with placebo.

Like its sister compound piracetam, aniracetam has proven to be effective in selective areas. In three different animal studies, researchers found aniracetam to have anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) properties.

We will, however, spare you the dreary details by providing just one example. And we will keep things interesting by engaging in a bit of sibling rivalry….

In one of the studies, aniracetam was found to be superior to piracetam, which has been monopolizing the nootropics research spotlight for decades. It’s time for aniracetam to shine.

The purpose of the study, which was conducted throughout Western Europe, was to determine whether aniracetam could benefit people ages 68 to 80 who had mild to moderate cognitive impairment and met the criteria for likely having dementia stemming from Alzheimer’s.

  • One group received 1500mg of aniracetam, another group got 2400mg of piracetam, and the last group was given placebo.
  • Each group took their doses daily for a 6-month period.
  • Throughout the trial, the placebo group’s mental health continued to deteriorate.

The result?

The aniracetam group experienced few side effects, and the ones that were present were so mild and transitory that no subject had to stop treatment as a result. On top of that, aniracetam proved to be even more effective than piracetam in this trial, and has shown to have anxiolytic effects in animal studies.

Brain Trauma

A traumatic brain injury happens when an external force causes the brain to dysfunction, such as a violent blow to the head or body. It can also occur when an object, such as a bullet, pierces the skull.

Phenylpiracetam has been approved in Russia for correcting cerebrovascular deficiency, focusing attention, ameliorating apathy, and slowing memory decline. Phenylpiracetam is even prescribed to astronauts in Russia who use it to sharpen their physical and mental abilities while in space (Malykh & Sadaie, 2010).

Phenylpiracetam is especially noteworthy because it’s fast-acting and absorbs well orally. The compound has enhanced the cognition scores of people with cognitive impairment or depression following encephalopathy, and brain injuries such as acute lesions, gliomas surgery and brain traumas.

In one study, phenylpiracetam performed even better than piracetam because it worked substantially faster to mend cognitive injury, along with ridding the patients of headaches. Piracetam, defeated again! And not for the last time either…

Pramiracetam has been reported to improve cognitive deficits resulting from brain trauma. Ukrainian studies found that pramiracetam is superior to piracetam at restoring memory loss in patients suffering from mild craniocerebral trauma (Malykh & Sadaie, 2010).

In addition, Italian researchers found that pramiracetam was 50 percent more effective than placebo in reducing amnesia-related effects caused by scopolamine intoxication.

Why We Need Choline, Vitamins and Supplements

Choline deficiency can increase the risk of DNA damage.

Choline and its derivatives are not vitamins per se, but in 1998 they were recognized by the Institute of Medicine as being necessary to maintaining human health.

Basically, choline is the precursor to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine which is involved in muscle control and memory. To reinforce the importance of choline, the Linus Pauling Institute issued a warning about choline deficiency, which can cause DNA damage and fatty liver.

In a study involving 57 people who were on a choline-deficient diet, 80 percent of the postmenopausal women, 44 percent of the premenopausal women, and 77 percent of the men had liver damage, fatty liver, or muscle damage of some sort.

Estrogen levels might have been the issue with the premenopausal women; however, adding choline to the subjects’ diets fixed the problem rather quickly.

Huperzia serrata is a plant that contains the alkaloid huperzine A, another treatment that, for whatever reason, all too often gets swept under the rug and isn’t given the attention it deserves.

WebMd has a great section on huperzine A’s function in the treatment of age-related memory problems and Alzheimer’s disease. This supplement shows promise in improving memory, learning and energy levels.

As previously discussed, huperzine A belongs to a group of cholinergics known as acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. By blocking the activity of the enzyme responsible for breaking down acetylcholine, huperzine A increases the amount of acetylcholine present in the brain and lengthens the duration.

Vitamins and Supplements

Taking B-complex vitamin supplements is especially important because many of us don’t get enough of them in our diets. Whole processed foods have the highest amounts of B vitamins, but it’s often difficult to find them in local grocery stores.

B vitamins include: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9 and B12. That’s a lot of siblings, and deficiency in any of them will result in complications.

For instance, severe, persistent thiamine (B1) deficiency can cause limb pain, irregular heartbeat, edema and even death. Thiamine deficiency can also cause all sorts of neurological dysfunctions that affect memory, coordination and vision.

Smokers, alcoholics, coffee drinkers and people who eat large amounts of certain kinds of fish are all at risk for developing thiamine deficiency.

You will find that each B vitamin has its own benefits.

Folic acid (B9) deficiency in pregnant women can cause birth defects and impaired mental functioning in other people. However, studies indicate that folic acid supplementation may reduce symptoms of depression.

Pyridoxine (B6) relieves depression, memory problems and peripheral neuropathies caused by dietary deficiencies. It can also reduce women’s chances of developing macular degeneration, the leading cause of vision loss.

Biotin (B7) plays a crucial role in metabolism, and is necessary for glucose and amino acids production. Biotin deficiency can cause vomiting, anorexia, dermatitis and neurological symptoms, including lethargy, hallucinations and peripheral neuropathy.

Liver, egg yolks, kidney and nuts are all good sources of biotin. If you cannot access these foods, try cereal or biotin supplements (Schnepp, 2002).

Bacopa monierri (brahmi) is a plant native to India that has been traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine for a host of problems, especially those dealing with anxiety and intellect. In rat studies, brahmi improved memory retention and reduced amnesia caused by electroconvulsive shock, scopolamine intoxication and/or immobilization.

In a study involving humans, brahmi did not have a significant effect on subjects’ short term memory. But it improved their scores on recalling unrelated word pairs (Roodenrys et al., 2002).

We definitely cannot end this chapter without extending a shout-out to sulbutiamine, a nootropic related to thiamine (B1), but has a greater ability to cross the blood-brain barrier than its parent compound. Sulbutiamine has shown promise in the treatment of asthenia and memory impairment.

Conclusion

I have personally tested dozens of testosterone boosting supplements, but unfortunately have not had a chance to try this one out yet.  I have no problem saying Weider Prime Testosterone Support is probably safe, and it may even be a beneficial supplement. But I don’t see how it calls itself a testosterone booster. With essentially none of the traditional testosterone boosting ingredients, you’d be better off choosing something more focused on the matter at hand.

CogniMaxx XL Review – The Real Limitless Pill?



Smart pills are becoming all the rage. Judging by the emails I get every day, I wouldn’t be surprised if these brain boosters are the fastest growing segment in the entire supplement industry. They’ve actually been around in some form or another for decades, but their popularity really exploded when Bradley Cooper starred in a movie called Limitless in 2011.

Cooper’s character starts out as kind of a hapless loser, but he takes this Limitless Pill, and all of a sudden he’s using his full brain capacity to become incredibly productive and successful overnight. He makes millions in the stockmarket, he writes a novel in one night, and is well on his way to bringing peace to the Middle East before the bad guys try to take him down.

When it first came out, everyone thought it was just fiction, the kind of thing that only happens in the movies. But along came supplements like CogniMaxx XL, saying they have what it takes to turn that kind of potential into reality.

CogniMaxx XL Benefits

Cognitive capacity does indeed drop off somewhat as we age. That’s why you see those brain programs like Luminosity. But according to an “article” you may have read:

In fact, this same article states that CogniMaxx XL was the actual pill used in the Limitless movie. When we first read this article, we smelled a rat. Just look at that last bullet point again. So, if you’re a relatively bright guy with an IQ of say 110, CogniMaxx XL will increase it to 194. Stephen Hawking has an IQ of 160, so their data is questionable to say the least.

More About The “Article”

Let’s talk a little more about this Forbes article that’s getting so much attention. You’ve probably read it. It may even be the reason you’re here. When we first read it, a few red flags popped up immediately, so we looked closer, and that’s when we became convinced that the whole thing is just pretty much a fake.

  • They want you to believe the article comes from Forbes Magazine. It doesn’t. The URL is from the Cognimaxx XL website domain.
  • And they want you to believe Warren Buffet endorses Cognimaxx XL. He doesn’t. Notice, there’s no quote from him about how Cognimaxx XL helps him make his billions. There’s no quote from him about anything. If he were using it and promoting it, there would be a quote.

There have been lots of legitimate profiles done over the years on Warren Buffet and the secrets to his success. None of them mention a brain pill and none of them mention CogniMaxx XL.

The truth is, the article really isn’t an article at all. It’s an advertisement trying to look like an article, hoping to gain an air of legitimacy. Here’s more evidence:

CogniMaxx XL Clinical Trials

The article makes a big deal about how CogniMaxx XL has been clinically tested at The Nottingham Clinical Trials Unit (NCTU).

It says The NCTU has conducted over 2000 trials on CogniMaxx XL and its secret ingredient, Bee Pollen, but we have a couple of problems with this statement:

  • There’s no mention of CogniMaxx XL or Bee Pollen anywhere on the NCTU website.
  • If you look up the uses and benefits of Bee Pollen on WebMD, cognitive enhancement is not even on the list of potential uses.

By my count, we’re up to at least 2 strikes for this “article.” Here’s number 3.

The Tweet

The article references a tweet put out by the Limitless Movie when it first came out:

But… the movie came out in 2011. We can’t find any evidence that CogniMaxx XL came on the scene before 2014. So that Tweet just didn’t happen. While looking into this, we found the real original tweet, and a similarly Photoshopped one for a different product. Check these out:

The Other Phony Article

Just for good measure, we’ll take it to 4 strikes. The article mentions a previous Forbes article touting the amazing benefits of CogniMaxx XL. The article was supposedly written in February 2014 by Robert Langreth. Robert Langreth was indeed a reporter who worked at Forbes.com, but he left in 2011 for a job at Bloomberg.

The real article that this one is pretending to be was actually written in 2002, and there’s no mention of CogniMaxx XL in at at all. CogniMaxx XL didn’t even exist at that point.

And if you’re still not convinced, here’s the clincher. Right at the foot of the article, there’s little note:

It’s says right there, in gray text on black background so you can hardly read it, that this page has NO AFFILIATION with Forbes. So, if you still believe this is a Forbes article, I guess we’re going to have to agree to disagree.

But Does CogniMaxx XL Work?

Hopefully, you’re getting the picture here. There was no article in Forbes Magazine about the amazing new pill and its potential to make you a super smart billionaire. But what do we know about CogniMaxx XL? Maybe it isn’t as phenomenal as they say, but does it work? Can it make you think better and remember more easily? We looked into that too, and honestly, it’s tough to tell.

CogniMaxx XL Ingredients

The actual CogniMaxx XL website doesn’t list the ingredient profile. That’s a shame because it’s hard to get a good feel of how something will work when you don’t know what it’s made of. But we found a few hints here and there about some possible ingredients:

Bee Pollen. According to the “Forbes Article,” Bee Pollen is the secret ingredient that brings it all together. But as we mentioned above, there’s no evidence that Bee Pollen is beneficial to cognitive ability at all.

Ginkgo Biloba. This ingredient can increase blood flow throughout the body, including to the brain. The benefit is that with the improved blood flow comes more oxygen and nutrients feeding your brain and your brain power. It’s a very commonly used supplement used to combat age-related cognitive decline.

Vinpocetine which has been used to combat cognitive degenerative diseases like Altzheimer’s Disease. It may improve both short and long term memory.

Those are the ones referenced in the article. Another source lists Phosphatidylserine as well.

Phosphatidylserine is also used to fight Altzheimer’s Disease and age-related decline in mental function. Additionally, it’s believed to improve thinking skills in young people as well. The way it’s thought to work is by increasing cell regeneration.

If they are actually in the formula, Vinpocetine and Phosphatidylserine are both solid choices for any brain boosting supplement. And Ginkgo is great in a supporting role. We just wish we knew for sure they’re in the formula and if so, is it more than just a dusting?

Where to Buy CogniMaxx XL

CogniMaxx XL is only available online. You won’t find it in supplement stores, drug stores, or even big box stores. I checked. If you want CogniMaxx XL, you have to order it online. Conveniently, the article as well as several review websites, has a link to where you can do just that.

A single bottle costs $47, but if you buy multiples, you’ll pay a lower per bottle price. The biggest package deal is for 7 bottles for $197.00, bringing the per bottle price down to $28.14. There’s a 30-day money back guarantee, but it includes a restocking fee, so it’s not completely risk-free.

Conclusion

You’re here because you want to know if CogniMaxx XL works. It’s true I haven’t tried it yet. I plan on ordering a bottle, and I’ll post my results as soon as I give it a fair shot. But at this point, I’m not very hopeful. I’ve tried several other products that used the same advertisement article – the EXACT SAME article – just with a different product name plugged in. None of them were very effective.

The bottom line is that if the centerpiece of your marketing campaign is a falsified article pretending to come from Forbes magazine, you probably don’t have much faith that your product’s results will speak for themselves.

What Are Nootropics?



We’ve heard the debates, the arguments, the never-ending questioning of: what’s the most important organ in the body? We’ve seen the mixed results: the liver, the heart, and the brain, generally topping the list.

Though we concur that all three are incredibly vital to the body’s internal functioning, we have to side with the big man: the brain. Whether the brain is truly the most important organ in the body is indeed arguable, but according to the National Institute of Drug Abuse, it’s the most complex.

No doubt about it, the brain is one powerful organ. Those little neurons in our brain have the monumental responsibility of sending data from the brain to the rest of our body.

In other words, the brain communicates with other organs in the body by transmitting messages through neurons, which also store information as memories.

Despite its seemingly superhuman strength, the brain can be debilitating as well.

Like when you just want to concentrate on a sole idea, but it keeps bouncing schizophrenically from one thing to the next.

What are Nootropics Anyway?

We admit, the word “nootropics” does have a strangely intimidating yet enticing ring to it. “Noo,” sounds ominous, or like a warning. “Tropics,” sounds deliciously inviting.

  • Safeguard the brain against physical/chemical injuries, such as barbiturates and scopolamine
  • Assist the brain in operating under unsettling conditions, such as electroconvulsive shock and hypoxia
  • Strengthen the efficiency of neuronal mechanisms in the brain
  • Be free of the typical pharmacology found in other psychotropic drugs and have very few side effects plus extremely low levels of toxicity

Clearly, Giurgea put a lot of thought into his criteria. But when it comes to science, it’s given that other players will come up with their own observations and proposals.

Still, the general consensus is that nootropics should have a well-developed safety profile and little to zero toxicity.

Typical Nootropic Users

Any healthy adult seeking to improve his or her mental faculties can become a nootropic user. In fact, the online nootropics community is made up of mostly healthy individuals looking to use nootropics to attain motivation and more lucid thinking.

An online survey on nootropic usage reveals most of the respondents as males. The survey targeted people in two of the biggest online nootropics communities: Reddit and LongeCity.

Participants were asked to describe their experiences with 31 different substances.  Those substances ranged from Armodafinil to Ginkgo Biloba, and many common nootropics in between.

Out of the 162 respondents, 92 percent were males and 8 percent were females. The average age was 25.

But that’s not to say that only “youngsters” use nootropics. Remember, the survey interviewed only a designated number of people, and only some responded.

So, somewhere out there are probably hordes of other people adding to the nootropics-user base. But we will stick to what we can support.

Besides being used by enthusiasts for learning, studying and sharpening their mental firepower, nootropics has been shown to help the elderly and those suffering from brain trauma. Even Russian astronauts got in on the action, taking nootropics to boost their mental capacities in space.

Debunking Common Myths

Myth #1:   They are NOT a cure.

We know, it’s tempting to believe, or want to believe, that the benefits of nootropics are the cure to all of our mental problems. From this belief stems the illusion that nootropics will transform us into geniuses or make us more intelligent.

Let’s drop-kick this appalling myth…

Nootropics are cognitive enhancers. They do not improve intelligence or produce blinding brilliance. They simply boost mental capabilities relating to attention, memory and recall.

For instance, nootropics make it easier to concentrate on tasks and improve productivity. But they will not automatically turn an average thinker into the next virtuoso philosopher. They can, however, make him more adept at getting things done.

Myth #2:  They Don’t Work Instantly

Since it’s generally acceptable to label nootropics and smart drugs as one in the same, there’s nothing wrong with adopting this trend. But for the sake of knowledge and accuracy, it pays to know the difference.

Let’s set the record straight.

Smart drugs are usually prescribed by doctors to treat symptoms of mental or cognitive disorders. For instance, Ritalin and Adderall are stimulants used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Smart drugs typically contain stimulants, which boost energy and focus, but can also be detrimental in someone with heart or cardiac issues. The stimulants in these drugs increase dopamine and norepinephrine levels, which can cause tolerance and dependence, negatively affecting stress levels, appetite, mood, as well as a wide range of cardiac effects.

Smart drugs operate like amphetamines in that they stimulate the brain’s neurotransmitters to promote focus and alertness, similar to how caffeine operates.

On the flip side, a nootropic is a non-prescribed natural or synthetic compound made from herbs, vitamins and other supplements. It’s designed to increase or safeguard cognition, and when taken properly by a generally healthy individual, typically does not produce side effects.

As Giurgea stated, the objectives of nootropics should always be to promote cognitive abilities and flow, while avoiding the side effects of harsh substances such as stimulants.

Types of Nootropics



We just got done discussing what Nootropics are, how they’re classified, who uses them, and common myths in Chapter 1 of this guide.

In this section, we’re going to talk about the various types of Nootropics, as well as how they work.

What makes nootropics so beautifully unique is that they are largely derived from natural ingredients and come in an extensive array of types. You might need a checklist to keep track of them all, but here’s a tip: tracking them gets easier if you think of them in terms of “families.”

Once you understand the general purpose of the family, what the individual compound does becomes clearer.

Let’s begin with the “mother” of all nootropics…

The Racetam Family

(piracetam, aniracetam, nefiracetam, levetiracetam, pramiracetam, oxiracetam, phenylpiracetam, noopept, and more)

That’s a whole lot of “tams,” but each has earned the right to be a member of the family. As the first nootropic ever, piracetam is special.

types of nootropicsHad it not been for Giurgea discovering piracetam, the word “nootropics” would probably not exist – he coined the term only after discovering piracetam (Giurgea 1972).

After the development of piracetam, many other racetams emerged, including aniracetam, nefiracetam, levetiracetam, pramiracetam, oxiracetam, phenylpiracetam and noopept.

All racetams have the same basic chemical structure that promotes cognitive enhancement. They all share a 2-pyrrolidone nucleus, and as derivatives of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) are not naturally occurring, but rather chemically synthesized.

Being the first of its kind, piracetam remains the most widely known and researched racetam. Next on the popularity scale are aniracetam, oxiracetam and pramiracetam.

Despite being the most popular, piracetam is neither the strongest nor the fastest-acting racetam. For instance, oxiracetam is more potent and quicker-acting than piracetam and aniracetam (Landon, 2014).

Things get even more serious with pramiracetam, which is said to be up to 30 times stronger than piracetam – not to mention having all the letters needed to spell piracetam in its name.

noopeptThe Russian-developed and approved noopept is similar in potency to pramiracetam. It is so powerful that the recommended dosage is as little as 10-20 milligrams, up to three times per day.

Racetams are used for medical purposes in different countries. For instance, in Europe, piracetam has a long history as a cognition-enhancing agent used to treat impaired intellectual function.

Most racetams are not approved in the United States for medical use. The only one that has received the honor is levetiracetam (brand name Keppra) – an anticonvulsant used to control epileptic seizures.

A 2004 publication by the National Institute of Health reveals that levetiracetam has proven to be well tolerated and safe. The most common side effects are dizziness, asthenia and sleepiness, which typically appear at the onset of levetiracetam treatment and usually disappear without medication withdrawal.

Eugeroic Stimulants

(modafinil, adrafinil, armodafinil, etc.)

modafinilEugeroic stimulants – such as modafinil and adrafinil – operate like smart drugs, but they generally don’t produce significant spikes in heart rate or blood pressure nor do they produce euphoria or the propensity for abuse.

This is in contrast to conventional stimulant medications such as Adderall (mixed amphetamine salts), Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine) and Ritalin (methylphenidate, a compound structurally related to amphetamine).

Eugeroic stems from Greek word meaning “good arousal.” It is a wakefulness-promoting agent that makes it easier to stay up longer and temporarily helps to avoid sleep deprivation.

Eugeroics are not a replacement for sleep. Instead, they enable wakefulness to facilitate productivity. They can be especially useful when you’re forced to sit through a boring class or perform monotonous sleep-inducing work.

You will probably never see someone on the street selling their parents’ TV for their next hit of modafinil. But that doesn’t mean side effects aren’t possible.

Modafinil and adrafinil’s effect on mental functioning (beyond wakefulness) have not been confirmed, and although side effects are uncommon, they can be life threatening.  While some eugeroic stimulants require a prescription (e.g. modafinil), others don’t (e.g. adrafinil).

Cholinergics

There are several ways to define cholinergic substances. For brevity’s sake, we will examine two angles:

First perspective

We might hear these words incessantly from someone we know, and dismiss this person as patronizing or nagging. But they’re right!

While there’s a great deal of quackery in the alternative health field, there’s also solid evidence on the benefits of vitamins and supplements, with regards to mood, motivation, alertness, etc.

It seems like there’s a new brain boosting supplement coming out every single day. Most of them promise results like Bradley Cooper’s character in the movie, “Limitless.” Focusene takes a different approach. It’s goal is to boost the cognitive function, focus, and concentration for those unlucky people with actual deficits in this area. The fact that the ingredients they chose show clinical promise is a good thing.

The known ingredients in Synapsyl are generally well tolerated, but with any supplement, you’ll encounter a slight risk of side effects. The Phosphatidylserine has the potential to cause an upset stomach and sleeplessness, and the Phosphatidylcholine may also cause upset stomach.

On the label they actually point out the side effects of St. Johns Wort, one of the other primary ingredients.

I can definitely attest to this, as I’ve gotten some really bad sunburns down here in south Florida while taking St. Johns Wort.

There’s quite a bit of online buzz about Synapsyl being generated by “review websites”. These sites are set up like they’re offering unbiased reviews, but if you look more closely, you’ll see that most of them don’t review anything other than Synapsyl.

That’s because they’re really just advertisements trying to get you to click through and place an order.

One example would be this one, which shows up when you search for Synapsyl reviews in Google just below our review:

First off, who starts a website with the name synapsyl review dot com???

I would say probably someone with the intent of selling the product in the name of their website 🙂

Second, if you click on their link and read the last paragraph of their “review”, it doesn’t even really make sense.

Of course just below that there’s a link to buy it.  The rest of their review is a mix of gibberish that was clearly written by someone who doesn’t write English as their first language.

It’s just advertising, nothing too sinister, but it’s good to be aware of what you’re dealing with.

Unbiased reviews from customers who’ve actually used Synapsyl are harder to come by. I dug pretty hard and came up with just a few. Unfortunately, the news isn’t good:

  • Robert says, “Synapsyl does absolutely nothing that it claims to do.”
  • R.A says, “It is a scam. It will cause nausea”
  • Ted jokes that, “I’m sure I have tried this, but I just can’t recall if it really worked.” (He gave Synapsyl only 2 stars.)

Most of these reviews (which appear to be unbiased) are on Highya.com, but there is also some anecdotal reports on Reddit as well.

From what I can tell, Synapsyl is only available online on their website www.Synapsyl.com.

I searched through Amazon, eBay, and even my local GNC, Walmart, Walgreens and CVS and no one else seems to carry it.

I made sure to read the entire Terms and Conditions document just to be certain I wasn’t missing anything. My Personal Results With Synapsyl

While a free trial seems nice in theory, what ends up happening is they will charge your credit card a hefty amount 2 weeks later.

A lot of supplements like Max Synapse, Cogniq, and others do this, which often leave a bad taste in peoples mouths.

Synapsyl doesn’t do this.

They only offer the ability to buy it outright, which I talked about above.

Based on the reviews I read in the past, I wasn’t expecting much out of this one, but figured I’d give it its day in court.

The directions state that you should take 1 capsule twice daily with meals, so the first pill I took in the morning shortly before breakfast.

I took it with literally nothing else, apart from a cup of coffee.

The official Synapsyl website promises sky-rocketing concentration, improved creative thinking, and enhanced memory recall.

I waited and waited to start feeling these effects, but really didn’t feel anything.

Ignoring the suggestions on the bottle, I took a second capsule about 3 hours later and again, waited.

Nothing happened. 

There was no surge in productivity or mood.  No lessening of any anxiety (although I’m not really anxious to begin with).  No sudden moments of clarity.

I would liken my results to the same that I experienced with another supplement called Geniux.

I decided to take it for another couple of days, thinking maybe it would gradually take effect.  But I can say with 100% honesty that I didn’t feel practically anything from it.

Which is also to say that I didn’t seem to get any side effects from Synapsyl either.

In short, it basically didn’t do anything.

  • The only unbiased reviews we found were abysmal.

Conclusion

The website it informative. The formula appears to be well researched. The price is reasonable. What’s not to like? Unfortunately, that rosy picture doesn’t account for the fact that the only real customer feedback says Synapsyl just doesn’t work. The most realistic explanation for the poor performance is that the formula just doesn’t get the amounts and balance of ingredients right.

The real limitless pill?  I personally don’t think so.

In fact, compared to the several dozen other Nootropics supplements I’ve personally tested, I would definitely rank Synapsyl in the lower 3rd.  I can reluctantly say that you shouldn’t waste your time with this one.

Panaxcea (Panexitrol) Review – Should You Try It?



These kinds of supplements are popping up on my radar quite a bit lately. Sometimes they’re vague in their claims. Other times they’re extremely specific. But they basically all make the claim that they rejuvenate your cells and make you feel better.

The most recent one come around is called Panaxcea, which sounds very similar to a competing product called Panexitrol. On its website, there’s a picture of a young guy, blissful and almost flying. The caption is A Better New You! Unleash The Power of Your Mind! I thought it was kind of a strange juxtaposition, so I read on.

Panaxcea Benefits

Much like Panexitrol, the Panaxcea homepage lists out the benefits you can expect when you take this supplement. Within each listing, a certain word was always present, and in the end I think it’s probably the most important word on the whole website. The word is “may.” Here’s what I mean:

  • Panaxcea “may” regenerate cells and your joint and muscle pain “may” disappear, and “may” be replaced with great flexibility.
  • Your ability to process, remember, and recall information “may” show some improvement.
  • You “may” be able to move without pain.
  • You “may” feel rejuvenated.
  • You “may” feel young again.
  • It “may” rid you of years of toxic buildup.

All these benefits sound great, I admit. But with the word “may” in every statement, it might as well say Panaxcea “may” start your car on cold mornings. They’re not saying it actually will do these things, just that it may do them.

Except for a couple of ingredients at the end, it reminds me of the ingredients listed on the side of a box of fortified cereal. When I looked again, the list reminded me of something else too. It seemed pretty close to the list for another cell rejuvenating supplement I’ve reviewed called Regenify.

So I looked it up. It’s the exact same list, right down to each of the same ingredient amounts. Panaxcea is exactly the same thing as Regenify. So is this a case of one supplement imitating another? Or is it something else? I was curious so I did a little digging.

What is Regenify?

Several months ago, I started getting a bunch of questions from readers about a new supplement called Regenify. They’d received a brochure in the mail about the stuff, promising that it could cure 100s of diseases and make you look and feel decades younger.

Understandably, my readers wanted to know if this stuff was legit. If it was, it would be quite a product. Hell, I’d take it for sure. So I started looking into it, and all I could find online was a bare-bones website with little more than an order page. They didn’t even disclose anything about the ingredients.

I let me readers know that I was looking into it, but having trouble finding information. This being 2015, it’s pretty odd that an exciting new supplement didn’t have much of a web presence. That and the fact that it made these ridiculous promises led me to pretty much write this stuff off. Eventually, they did disclose their ingredient list. It was exactly what you see above.

But they must have done quite a mailing push because people kept asking about it, partly because once I’d put up my review, I was almost the only search result when you Googled Regenify. Even so, after a while the hype died down. I just figured they had their run, and once people found out it was basically a multivitamin and it couldn’t cure diseases, they withdrew their push.

What is Panexitrol?

So I’ve noticed a lot of people are now asking me about a very similar product called Panexitrol.  By all accounts, it appears that it’s virtually the same product.

Back to Panaxcea

Like I said, a lot of the buzz has died out. I still get the occasional question about Regenify, but it’s nothing like it was before. When I was asked about Panaxcea, I could tell from the website’s home page that this was something similar.

It wasn’t until I read the ingredient list that I realized it was more than just similar. It’s the exact same thing. So I did a little more digging. The Panaxcea website was first registered in early September of this year (less than 2 months ago). When you look into who owns the website, that information if private. But you can see what other sites are connected to it. And wouldn’t you know it? The regenify website is owned by the same people that own the Panaxcea website.

Further investigation reveals that they have the same address and phone number as well.

This came as no surprise after having done my homework, but it immediately let me know what was going on.

Why Do We Care That They’re The Same?

So Regenify and Panaxcea are the same product made by the same company. Who cares? Well, after the first initial round of excitement about Regenify, the complaints started rolling in. Clearly, customers found out that it didn’t do what it promised. But a lot of them also had horrific customer service experiences as well. I’ve heard that the reps were rude and pushy and unable to answer any questions at all about the product. I’ve also heard that getting them to refund your money under the money back guarantee is next to impossible.

In the supplement industry, it’s pretty common for a company to come out with a product, make a big sales push, burn a lot of bridges with their terrible product and service, then create a new brand and start all over.

It’s my opinion that that’s what’s going on with Panaxcea.

This could be avoided looking into a product before taking it, but not all potential customers are going to have as much access to information about male enhancement supplements and will not be able to know what to look for.

If you can find this product for $70 or less (or if you have the money to blow), then I’d say go for it. Otherwise, you can find other terrific weight loss supplements in store for half the price.

#2: BioGenetic Laboratories Meratrim Platinum+

top weight loss pills gncMeratrim Platinum+ by BioGenetic Laboratories is one of the best weight loss pills at GNC and Vitamin Shoppe. It is marketed towards women as a weight loss supplement (hence the cheerful woman in the advertising).

If you’re a guy and your ego will allow it, you can still take Meratrim Platinum as none of the ingredients are sex hormone specific. In other words, you won’t have to worry about your testosterone levels if you take this supplement.

Meratrim Platinum+ has a very simple yet effective formula. Its two primary ingredients, Sphaeranthus indicus and Garcinia mangostana, both have scientific backing as you’ll find in this article published in the Journal of Medicinal Food.

Its other two ingredients are L-Carnitine and Green Tea Extract. The jury is still out on L-Carnitine for weight loss although it is found within many pre, intra, and post workout supplements because of its suggested muscle building benefits. Green tea has been hailed as an all-around health aid and studies have demonstrated its effectiveness for weight management.

So what are people saying about Meratrim Platinum+?

Like many of the best supplements, it has gone through various formula changes based on the irresponsible usage of customers and FDA legislation. Still, considering what the company has been through, they still manage to put out terrific, yet pricey, supplements for weight loss.

Let’s get started with the somewhat bad news first. SX-7 Black Onxy contains Salvia miltiorrhiza and Theanine. Salvia miltiorrhiza: This herb may have a long-standing history of ancient medicinal use but the studies to back it up just aren’t there.

Then there is Theanine.

As far as ingredients go, BSN Clean Fat Burner has a great line-up including Green Coffee Extract, Caffeine Anhydrous, Cissus Quadrangularis Extractm, and Yerba Mate Extract.

These ingredients, in particular, have all demonstrated a number of benefits related to weight loss including increased levels of fat burning and heightened energy and focus.

Overall, Clean Fat Burner makes sure to play to every type of crowd.  It has a formula that supports metabolic boosting, appetite suppression, and energy enhancement.

The general consensus that you’ll find scattered across the Internet is that Clean Fat Burner is an effective way to support weight loss and muscle building. Some of the most positive comments that I came across had to do with people losing up to 20 pounds in conjunction with exercise and a healthy diet.

Other people used it as an alternative to coffee and found themselves to be extremely productive throughout the day. The negative reviews that I found all had to do with the fact that this is a thermogenic blend. People who tried it on an empty stomach experienced nausea.

Other customers with a caffeine intolerance found that they could not handle the thermogenic formula, of which caffeine is the main ingredient. Case in point: It works but you may want to look elsewhere if you are sensitive to thermogenics like caffeine and green coffee extract.

Given the formula and reviews, I’d say that BSN Clean Fat Burner may be a great asset to your weight loss journey. My only problem with the supplement is the price point that you’ll find at the GNC and Vitamin Shoppe stores.

It runs $60 before taxes for a one-month supply. Considering the other supplements on our list, I think this is a bit expensive. If you are a Gold Card member, you can pick it up for $48, which is better. Put simply: If you can find it on sale, grab it.

Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals is a brand that is becoming increasingly popular around the thermogenic supplement scene. Their product Fastin is often on the store shelves at your local GNC and Vitamin Shoppe, and it is a common diet pill that has a decent line up of ingredients.

Fastin has a short and sweet ingredient list that includes:

  • Caffeine
  • Yohimbe
  • Phenyethylamine hcl
  • Methylsynephrine hcl
  • N-Methyl-B-Phenylethylamine HCL
  • Synephrine HCL
  • Theobromine Anhydrous

If you’re looking for the heavy hitters of weight loss research, nothing hits harder than Yohimbe and Theobromine. Yohimbe has been shown to be extremely effective at promoting body fat reduction while improving body composition.

Theobromine has been shown in studies to trigger a high level of fat oxidation while increasing your energy levels. It also has been said to suppress appetite and improves insulin sensitivity.

So how does Fastin stack up?

First and foremost, if you have a sensitivity to any type of thermogenic, this is not for you.  I personally have a sensitivity to Yohimbe, so my first week on the product was up and down.

If you can adjust or if thermogenics are no big deal to you, then you may be very happy with what Fastin can provide. The reviews you’ll find about the product all point to the incredibly high energy levels.

This is both a good and bad thing depending on who you ask.

As you’ll see in my full review, I ended up losing 2 pounds in one month, which isn’t bad. I didn’t need to lose much so I was pretty happy with the result, although I’ve lost more on other products.

Even with a decent line up of ingredients, I don’t think I’d recommend this product. The price point is a bit high for a one-month supply as you’re looking at $50 for a supplement with a very high thermogenic profile.

If you can find it on sale and you have a good history with thermogenics, then I would say buy it. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

Walmart also is home to a well-stocked supplement section. It may be surprising to learn that the store provides more than just a box of protein bars.

This Utah-based company offers several supplement solutions to fat burning with the most popular being Zantrex-3 High Energy Fat Burner.

Zantrex-3 has some noteworthy ingredients that all have scientific research and studies to back up their effectiveness including Kola Nut Extract, Yerba mate, Green Tea extract, Caffeine, and Panax Ginseng.

Of these ingredients, there are two that I haven’t talked about. Kola Nut Extract is rarely seen on product labels but considering the research, that may soon be changing. Kola Nut Extract has been shown to suppress appetite and significantly reduce body fat.

Panax Gingseng, an ancient overall health remedy, has been shown in several studies to support weight loss as well as healthy gut bacteria.

It has proven ingredients but is the product worth the buy? Bad news first: If you look at some of the reviews on our site, the most common complaints about Zantrex are:

  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea

Consider this: These reviews are mostly from people that already had a known intolerance to caffeine.

In fact, in the reviews that I read on other sites, the authors all admitted they had a caffeine intolerance YET they still took the product. You know your own body. If you can’t handle caffeine then why would you do that to yourself?

If you can handle your morning cup of coffee, then this product should be just fine. It no longer has the ephedrine in it that it once did (which may be a good or bad thing, depending on who you’re asking), yet it still knocks a powerful punch for your weight loss.

All of the positive reviews that you’ll find on the product talk about a high amount of energy, increased productivity, decreased body fat, and enhanced muscle mass.

Like most supplement companies, Zantrex has hit some bumps in the road with their original formula. Even after changing up their ingredients, Zantrex still offers an impressive product at a reasonable price.

If you’re looking for a way to support your weight loss journey in conjunction with a proper diet and exercise program, then I would recommend Zantrex-3.

In fact, I would even go so far as to say that it’s one of the best female fat burners we’ve ever tested.

Relacore is a little different from most weight loss supplements. While the rest of them put their focus on typical strategies like boosting metabolism, burning fat, and suppressing appetite, Relacore concentrates on relieving stress and improving your mood, and claims that this is the way to win the fight against belly fat.

It may seem strange, but the claim is based on the real concept that stress causes your body to release Cortisol, the stress hormone. According to this article in Prevention Magazine, Cortisol signals your body to replenish its energy stores by – you guessed it – eating, and because when you’re stressed you’re also craving pleasure to replace the anxiety, you’re going to crave pleasure-inducing foods like fat, salt, and sugar. It seems that increased cortisol can lead not only to increased fat, but specifically increased belly fat, as fat cells in the belly have been shown to contain more cortisol than fat cells in the rest of the body.

But the question that remains is whether or not Relacore can lower cortisol levels and reduce the associated belly fat.

Along with Vitamin C, several B Vitamins, and essential minerals, the Relacore formula provides a proprietary blend of herbs including:

  • Ginseng

  • Passion Flower

It was formulated by Creative Bioscience, specifically for dieters in any phase of the hCG diet plan (the one with the drops), but with its list of benefits it really can be used by anyone using any program to try to lose weight.

The eAC 1234 formula relies quite a bit on stimulants with its nearly 200 mg of caffeine, 30 mgs of Citrus Aurantium, 100 mg of Green Tea, and 20 mg of Guarana Extract. That’s some serious stimulant power, in fact it may be too much for some. Citrus Aurantium in conjunction with Caffeine has been known to cause uncomfortable side effects, perhaps to the point of being dangerous.

Additional ingredients include, B Vitamins, Chromium, Caralluma Fimbriata, Cascara Sagrada, and a Probiotic Blend.

Caralluma Fimbriata comes from a cactus plant, and there’s evidence that it can help control appetite, while Cascara Sagrada acts as a laxative.

Customer feedback on eAC 1234 is mainly positive, primarily in reference to the appetite control. This is a popular choice for people who have difficulty keeping their eating under control, and for the most part, it seems to be helping.

Walmart sells the 60-count bottle (a one month supply) for under $15. At this price, it’s almost a no-brainer.

Slimquick Pure is a weight loss product designed especially for women, and it promises to help you lose 3 times the weight in just 13 weeks, recognizing the open secret we all really know – that it’s just plain harder for women to lose weight than it is for men.

The Slimquick Pure line works on 6 levels to help you smash through plateaus:

  • Boosts metabolism
  • Suppresses appetite
  • Sends energy soaring
  • Reduces bloating and excess water
  • Support proper hormone balance
  • Eases stress

The product line has yet another hook, and that’s the online support community you can join when you buy the products and sign up. Heck, I don’t think you even have to buy the products, I think you can just join. It’s definitely the kind of perk that can engender loyalty to a brand.

fat burners walmartThe Twinlab company has been around for a long time and like larger companies such as BSN, it offers a product for every fitness goal. In the weight loss department, Twinlab has a line-up of Ripped Fuel supplements.

The most popular in the series is Ripped Fuel Extreme.

The main ingredients in Ripped Fuel Extreme are Caffeine, Green Tea leaf extract, Cayenne fruit extract and L-Carnitine. While the first three of these ingredients all have studies supporting their ability to promote a healthy weight loss, L-Carnitine does not. (6, 2, 8)

With that said, L-Carnitine is a very popular ingredient to support muscle building and you’ll find it in many pre-workout and post-workout recovery products; however, the Ripped Fuel brand does not even come close with an efficient dosage. To see real results from L-Carnitine, you need at least 2 grams.

Ripped Fuel Extreme only has 13 mg!

As with most caffeine heavy products, the reviews are mixed based on the user’s body type. The positive features of Ripped Fuel Extreme include higher energy levels and water weight loss. For those who are sensitive to caffeine, the 220 mg per serving may be a bit high.

Speaking of caffeine, it seems to be the only ingredient in this product that is dosed at its effective level. The rest of the fat burning ingredients are all lacking.

In other words, Ripped Fuel Extreme is essentially a caffeine pill.

Considering the price point for the product, which is $14 at Walmart, I wouldn’t recommend Twinlab Ripped Fuel Extreme. You can purchase a huge supply of straight caffeine tablets for much less elsewhere.

Walgreens, Rite Aid, & CVS

If you don’t feel like trucking to your local GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, or Walmart, you can always find a wide variety of diet pills in local stores like Walgreens, Rite Aide, and CVS.

You’ll find many of the exact same products we’ve already talked about above in these stores, but here’s a few that seem to be sold almost exclusively in these chains.

#11: Lipo 6 Black Concentrate

diet pills at walgreensNutrex has made its way into many households across the nation since the company first started in 2002. With the recent opening of their newest headquarters in Florida, Nutrex is pushing more product than ever before.

The supplement company’s focus and popularity stems from its unique line of diet pills that are readily available in your local Walgreens, Rite Aid, and CVS.

Lipo 6 Black Concentrate is arguably the most popular weight loss supplement from Nutrex, but the reviews seem to be a bit mixed. The commonly cited benefits of taking Lipo 6 as stated by users were as follows:

  • Intense energy and focus
  • High level of intensity during workouts
  • Noticeable body fat loss
  • Elevated mood
  • Feelings of euphoria

And the drawbacks?  Here’s a few direct quotes from reviews on my site:

  • “I ended up in the hospital for getting a vascular disease”
  • “Not worth the money”

A bit scary if you ask me.

Lipo 6 Black Concentrate review

Although Nutrex keeps their scientifically proven ingredient list simple with Caffeine, Theobromine, Synephrine, Yohimbine, and Rauwolscine, they do so in the form of a proprietary blend. One capsule provides you with 294.5 mg of this special blend.

Caffeine is at the top of the ingredient list, meaning it makes up most of that 294.5 mg blend. This may be where the negative reviews come into play. Many people complained of caffeine-related side effects such as diarrhea and nausea.

With that said, like many of the products on this list, if you can’t handle caffeine then you may want to look elsewhere for a diet pill.

All of this in mind, I believe that the claims made in many of the reviews may be exaggerated as the proprietary blend doesn’t allow you to see the full dosage for each ingredient.

Caffeine is clearly the dominant ingredient.

Since you can’t see how much of each ingredient is in the formula, it’s completely possible that caffeine could make up 98% of the blend, for example, with the remaining 2% being a minuscule amount of the other tried, true, and highly effective fat burners. Without complete disclosure, the customer doesn’t know what they are getting themselves into.

From the proprietary blend to the discovered fake paid reviews (which I explain in my full review), I’m not sure if I’d recommend this. If you can find it on sale at Walgreens, Rite Aide, or CVS, then it may be worth giving it a try.

As far as the Simply brand goes, there isn’t much to tell because there isn’t much information. When the supplement boom for Garcinia Cambogia and Green Coffee Bean began, thanks largely in part to the Dr. Oz show (which put him under some criticism), many new brands began to pop up to get their share of the customers.

It’s important to distinguish the science behind the ingredient and the reputation of the company, which I explain in great detail in my full review of this supplement. You can read the review and check out my video here.

As far as ingredients go, the Simply brand stands by their title. There is only Garcinia Cambogia and Green Coffee Bean in the respective supplements. The science behind these ingredients favors one over the other.

In animal studies involving Garcinia Cambogia, obese rats did show a high level of fat oxidation and total body fat reduction.

In human trials; however, the jury is still out.

Despite several studies, no human subject has demonstrated a marked improvement in weight loss due to the use of Garcinia Cambogia.

Green Coffee Bean, on the other hand, has the scientific studies to back up its claims for supporting a healthy weight loss. Several studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of Green Coffee Bean in reducing overall body fat and triggering a total body weight loss.

Ingredients aside, what about the reviews for the Simply brand products?

It’s a task to find legitimate reviews on the Simply brand supplements because they are more well known for their free trial scam. I explain this in greater detail in my video review.

Of the reviews I was able to find, these two supplements were nothing to brag about. Most users complained that they didn’t see a difference. Due to the lack of reviews on the internet and the company’s shady reputation, I would recommend trying a different in-store brand of Garcinia Cambogia and Green Coffee Bean.

#13: Alli Weight Loss Aid

Alli hitting the market was huge news. Why? It was the only FDA approved, over-the-counter weight loss aid. Think about that for a second. Every dietary supplement you pick up will inevitably have this statement somewhere on the bottle:

“These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.”

Now, for the first time, an over the counter supplement for weight loss has the FDA’s approval (which was actually later recalled due to possible tampering). Naturally, Alli flew off the shelves as the company claimed it could block about 25% of ingested fat from being absorbing.

This wasn’t just an empty promise.

Several studies were right there to back up the company claims. Alli is scientifically proven and FDA approved but what about the real world results?

As you may have expected, the general consensus is that Alli IS all that it’s cracked up to be. Numerous customers, who were also repeat buyers, raved about Alli.

One thing I did notice among the positive reviews was that many people intentionally limited their fat intake as they claimed it helped them lose more weight. More importantly, it helped them avoid the infamous side effects, which I talk about below.

Like any supplement, the negative reviews are out there too. Of the negative reviews, the most common claim is that the Alli of today is not the same Alli of 2000. Users claim the formula has changed, preventing the weight loss they experienced years before.

Other people complained about the dreadful side effects that made national news shortly after Alli’s release. These side effects include:

  • Changes in your bowel function
  • Fatty/oily stool
  • Oily spotting in your undergarments
  • Intestinal gas with discharge

  • Poor bowel control
  • Stomach pain

The science is there and you can’t get a better backing than from the FDA. If you are feeling brave and believe you have the ability to limit fat intake so that you limit your social embarrassment, then I’d definitely recommend Alli to help with your weight loss.

The decision to get in shape means a lot of different things depending on who’s making that decision. It could mean running on the treadmill and losing a few pounds. It could mean diving headlong into a bodybuilding program with the hope of winning competitions. Or it could mean anything in between.

And just like there are many different goals, there are at least as many ways to get there. Some people make little changes and chip away at their progress. Others change alost everything in their lives to fit around their new lifestyle goals. It all depends on what method works best for you.

Beachbody Performance is a supplement line that caters to people going all in. They put it out to provide every option you might need, taking the guesswork of your regimen. Just pick up one, two, three, or more of the Beachbody Performance supplements, or go with one of their ready made stacks, and you’re on your way.

Beachbody Performance Products

There are 5 different supplements in the Beachbody Performance Line. Sometimes, you’ll find some winners and some losers within a supplement line. Let’s them down and see what they each have to offer.

  • The Advanced Performance Stack which includes Energize, Hydrate, Recover, and Recharge. That’s basically everything but the Creatine. It’s designed for someone looking for fast loss and lean muscle gain. It sells for $199.95
  • The Utimate Performance Stack which is all 5 supplements, designed for someone who’s looking to increase muscle mass. It sells for $214.95.

 

Who Is Beachbody?

You’re probably more familiar with Beachbody from their numerous workout programs. The founders, Carl Daikeler and Jon Congdon, have been around since 1998, and they’re responsible for P90X, Insanity, Turbo Jam, and Hip Hop Abs. They do business out of Santa Monica, Ca, and they’ve built several entire fitness systems for anyone at starting at any level, trying to make it to the next.

They started with the workouts, but quickly branched out by providing meal plans and Shakeology, a popular meal replacement shake, supplements, and an online support community. They have clearly decided to take over the online fitness world! Recently, they’ve also entered into the anti-aging beauty product arena with a brand called Derm Exclusive, marketed as an alternative to office anti-aging procedures.

 

Why Choose Beachbody Performance

According to the marketing materials, there are several reasons why you’d go with the Beachbody Performance Line. The line has been meticulously researched by exercise physiologists, nutrition experts, athletes, and others in the field. It contains only ingredients that promote the end goal, with no fillers or extras just to look or sound good.

Every supplement idea is run past their Scientific Advisory Board for feasibility. The board includes professionals in fitness, nutrition, botanical science, herbal integrated medicine, and product safety.

Beachbody Performance Reviews

The Beachbody Performance line is relatively new, and as such, there’s not a lot of customer feedbackout there to get an idea of how the products are working in the real world. There are a few, however, and they’re pretty positive. Most of what we found relates to Energize, and here’s a good representative example:

“Most pre workout supplements are way too strong for me, and even after a tough workout I can feel the effects. This one is just perfect. Gets you going for the workout, gets you through it, then it’s gone.”

On the other hand, there are plenty of complaints about Beachbody customer service, mainly regarding their free trial offers and subsequent monthly billings. Disadvantages of Beachbody Performance

  • Looking at the formulas, they seem pretty weak compared to what else is out there.
  • There aren’t very many Beachbody Performance reviews from customers yet. This makes it hard to judge how well we can expect the products to work. This is especially problematic with formulas that don’t look strong.
  • The prices are pretty high.

Conclusion

Beachbody programs and products are very popular, especially their exercise programs which are their bread and butter. It makes sense they would get involved in the supplement market as well. They’ve got a very captive audience.

With that said, I’m not convinced the Beachbody Performance is worth getting involved with. They talk about big panels deciding what should go into the formulas, but in the end, the formulas they came up with are surprisingly mediocre. Pomegranate juice and Quercetin are good supporting ingredients, but they shouldn’t be the backbones of the formulas.

I would wait to get more customer feedback before I would advise anyone to go ahead with the Beachbody Performance Line of supplements.

Ever since a few high profile sports figures (think Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens) got caught for using (or being suspected of using) deer antler velvet supplements, more and more readers are asking me to look into them. These growth hormone increasing, athletic performance improving products are becoming all the rage.

One that recently caught my attention is called Alpha Rax Xtreme. It’s made by a company called INSTA_LABS, and it’s exclusively available online. Its claim to fame is that it’s the only deer antler velvet supplement that gets its primary ingredient from the Alpha Deer of the pack. Let’s break Alpha Rax Xtreme down and see if it warrants the attention it’s been getting.

The benefits promised by deer antler supplements are many, and Alpha Rax Xtreme is no exception. With 5 sprays twice a day, you’ll see:

  • L-Arginine which is a precursor to nitric oxide. When nitric oxide is increased, blood vessels open up to allow for improved blood flow. Better blood flow provides increased oxygen and nutrient to cells and tissue throughout the body. This leads to better athletic and sexual performance and often leads to improved cardiovascular functioning.
  • Epimedium which acts similarly to L-Arginine in that it improves blood flow, and also has an aphrodisiac effect.
  • Eurycoma Longifolia is thought to increase the amount of free testosterone by acting on Sex Hormone Binding Globulin. SHBG attaches itself to testosterone molecules, making them essentially ineffective. By decreasing SHBG, Eurycoma Longifolia increases free testosterone.
  • Tribulus Terrestris is thought to increase natural testosterone production by increasing the release of luteinizing hormone. LH signals the testes to produce an increased amount of testosterone.

What’s Different About Alpha Rax Xtreme?

There are lots of deer antler velvet supplements flooding the market lately, so if one hopes to be successful, they should probably have a hook. In the case of Alpha Rax Xtreme, its that they’re the only ones using velvet from the ears of the alpha deer of the pack. They harvest only from the most mature adult deer of the herd.

Each summer, male deer shed their antlers and grow a completely new set. After the new set is fully developed, it sheds the velvet that covered them as they grew. Alpha Rax Xtreme harvests this velvet only of the most mature deer. This velvet contains the sought after IGF-1

The order page mentions a 30 day money back guarantee, but it’s a bit misleading. If you read carefully, you’ll see that you can only return unopened bottles in their original packaging for a refund. If you’ve opened a bottle and used it, the guarantee doesn’t apply. This doesn’t strike me as much of a money back guarantee.
